Abstract: In accordance with the internationally recognized "Concept of Sustainable Development," special attention is paid to the need to begin a global solution to environmental problems at the local, national and regional levels with environmental protection and rational use of natural resources. Technological progress has exceeded the rate of use of natural resources and pollution of the environment by pollutants. As a result, the natural balance is disrupted. The expansion of the activities of mining enterprises leads to the pollution of atmospheric air, soil and drinking water. In this regard, the need to carry out geoecological research in these areas shows the urgency of the work.

ABSTRACT Standardization and quality control are the key factors in regulating the theraputic efficacy of herbal drugs. There are various standard pharmacognostic and chemical methods for checking an identity and the quality of single herbal drugs. Present communication highlights macro and micro-morphological characteristics, powder studies, histochemical tests, micro-chemical tests, physico- chemical constants, chromatographic profile and therapeutic uses; which can be useful for checking genuiness of herbal drugs.

The Estimation of Fishing Effort of the Most Important Fish Species Caught From the Egyptian Marine Fisheries

Abstract: The research aimed to estimate the Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) and the level of Fishing effort (FMSY) that attainable for the sustainability of the most important fish species caught from the Egyptian marine fisheries (Mediterranean and Red sea), this can be achieved through the following sub-objectives: (1) A study of evolution of fish catch from the Egyptian marine fisheries during the period (2005-2020), (2) A study of evolution of the most important fish species with the highest catches from the Egyptian marine fisheries during the research period, (3) A study of evolution of standard boats for catching fish species in question, (4) Estimating of the Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) and the Fishing effort (FMSY) that attainable for the sustainability of the fish species in question. The research relied on the use of some descriptive and quantitative economic analysis methods in analyzing the published secondary data during the period (2005-2020) which is represented in the annual fishing, and the effort as a number of fishing boats in question (purse seine, Trawling and Trammel net), using surplus production models (SPMS) for Schaeffer and Fox, and the data was analyzed on the computer using program SPSSV.16.

Experimental investigation of long-throated the accuracy of flow discharge measurement in trapezoidal canals

Abstract: Discharge measurement is the basis of accurate water distribution and proper management of Irrigation networks operation. In order to exploit Irrigation networks properly, it is required to measure water discharge in different points of network. Long-throated flumes are hydraulic structures that measure the flow enjoying low sensitivity to submergence, high accuracy, and low costs. One of important issue in the design of long-throated flumes is determination of sill height and downstream slope. The hydraulic of a long-throated flume is similar to a Broad-crested weir. In this research, the effect of geometric factors on the structure measured discharge has been investigated. Eight physical model of long-throated flume with constant upstream slope, four different downstream slopes and with two sill heights of 10 and 20 cm were examined. The dimensions of long-throated physical models were designed by WinFlume Software and built from PVC. The models were installed within a flume with 60cm wide, followed by discharge measurement. The comparison of measured discharge using triangular weir with the results of WinFlume indicated the accuracy of this model in discharge measurement. The percentage of error average in measured discharge and theoretical discharge is 2.4 in a 20-cm step and 8.2 in a 10-cm step.

Abstract: Background: Malaria is a prevailing public health problem in the tropical courtiers. In Sudan malaria is presenting a heavy burden to the national economy and health services. Application of preventive measures is known to reduce malaria mortality and morbidity significantly. Objective: This study aims to assess the effect of innovative interventions on the utilization rate of Insecticide Treated-Nets and pregnant women knowledge, attitude and practices. Methods: A pre and post study was conducted among 400 pregnant women. They were randomly selected from eight villages from East Gezira Locality. The intervention based on Communication for behavioral changes and utilization of Insecticide Treated Bed-Nets and continues for one year. The data were collected before and after intervention, compared and analyzed using SPSS-20. Results: The result revealed that, there is a significant change in practices concern method used in fixing mosquito bed nets with wood, and the daily usage of Insecticide Treated Bed-Nets. There are also significant modifications of knowledge and attitudes towards the benefits of Insecticide Treated Bed-Nets. Conclusion: The effective innovative intervention which aims to translate the existing knowledge into practice, therefore, yields good results.

Effect of time and environment on grafting success of walnut (Juglans regia) in Krewa soils of India.

Abstract: Most of walnut production in India comes from sexually propagated trees which lead to low fruit quality in size, color and other characteristics and hence there is immense scope and immediate need of shifting towards asexual propagation in walnut at commercial level. Hence this study was carried out during two successive seasons (2012 and 2013) on two-years-old walnut rootstocks under zero energy poly houses and open field conditions. Grafting was done by tongue grafting on five dates i.e. viz. 10th  January, 20th  January, 30st  January,10th February, 20th  February,) under poly house conditions in walnut and the same experiment was repeated under field conditions with same methods of grafting but with three different timings viz. 1st March, 11th March, 21st March, 31st March, and 11th April. The two year data showed that, highest success percentage of grafting was obtained on 21st January and lowest was recorded on 21st February under zero energy poly house while as grafting success was comparatively quite low in case of field conditions. The maximum number of shoots/scion and leaves/scion was observed on 30th January. The highest value for scion diameter (0.95cm) was found on seedlings grafted on 30th January while as lowest scion diameter of 0.46 cm on grafts of 1st March. The highest proportion of salable plants was observed on 30th January under poly house conditions and lowest proportion of salable plants was recorded on 1st March under open field conditions. The higher grafting success recorded could be due to the favorable temperature and relative humidity at the time of grafting and rapid flow of sap in stock and scion that might have favored the healing process and established the continuity of cambial and vascular tissues for the graft take. Significant effects were also noticed on number of shoots, number of leaves, scion diameter and number of salable plants.

Abstract: Genetic science is evolving day by day. This is a powerful motivational approach in understanding various gene(s) association in communicable and non-communicable disease. Society has been willing in the past and continues to be willing to pay significant amounts of money for research in this area. The primary reason behind such studies is the enormous potential to improve human well-being. By the realization of this perception, there is marked increase in the number of people and organizations involved in human genetic studies. Different mechanisms are combined to develop various useful techniques which enable geneticists to find different genetic basis of disorders. Premarital screening, carrier screening, prenatal diagnosis and rehabilitation of at risk individuals are eminent drive of genetic studies. Genetic studies have helped to combat disorder. Personalized medicine can be introduced for prevention of monogenic and polygenic diseases. In a nutshell, genetics has played a vital and splendid role in making human lives easy, glorious and satisfactory.

ASSESSMENT OF SEED POSITION IN THE FRUIT AS INDEX OF SELECTION FOR SUPERIOR SEED MORPHOMETRIC ATTRIBUTES IN FLUTED PUMPKIN (Telfairia occidentalis)

ABSTRACT: Pumpkin production in Nigeria is affected by non availability of high quality seeds and information on seed positional effect on seed morphometric parameters for judicious selections of seeds for pumpkin production is necessary. Matured fruits of ten pumpkin morphotypes were selected and then cut linearly at both ends of stigmatic scar and stalk joints. Seeds from anterior, middle and posterior positions were carefully removed from the fruits, cleaned using wooden shavings and thereafter evaluated for five seed metric and five seed physiological attributes. Data obtained were then subjected to statistical analysis using analysis of variance and significant means were separated using Tukey”s HSD test at 5% probability level. From the results, seed metric and physiological parameters from the 10 morphtypes and three seed positions in the fruits and their interaction revealed existence of variability. Seeds of Ogun, Isa-1 and Abia morphtypes were found with greater seed weight, seed length, seed width and seed thickness above other morphotypes across the seed positions. The performance of the three seed portions in the fruits brought out the significance superiority of posterior with highest seed weight, seed length, seed width and number of seeds over anterior and middle portions.  The seed improvement in terms of seed weight, seed length, seed width and number of seeds from the posterior portion was about 9-11, 4-7, 5-9 and 48-52 %, respectively above seeds obtained from the middle and posterior portions. Seeds obtained from posterior portion had maximum to moderate seed width and number of seeds in Isa-1 and Isa-2 morphtypes. On seed physiological performance, Isa-1 had a consistent superior seedling emergence (69%), seedling vigour index (10.71), leaf length (4.13cm), vigorous vine length (15.51cm) and number of leaves (12). Seeds from the posterior of the fruits were significantly superior in seedling emergence, seedling vigour, and number of leaves, leaf length and vine length over values obtained in seeds from anterior and middle portions. The superiority of seeds obtained from posterior portions of pumpkin fruits across genotypes was 10.7-11 % in seedling emergence, 8-13 % in seedling vigour index, 12-14 % in number of leaves,7-13 % in leaf length and 2-12 % in vine length over seeds from middle and anterior portions. Seeds from the posterior portion of pumpkin fruits had superior performance in terms of seed metric and physiological parameters and therefore recommended for use to obtain an enhanced emergence and growth performance in highly sought fluted pumpkin. Morphotypes Isa-1 and Isa-2 had outstanding performance in seed quality parameters and recommended for future seed improvement strategy.

The geochemical assessment of the quality of Borazjan’s groundwater and the determination of its quality for agricultural purposes

Abstract: The Increase in water consumption that is due to population growth has decreased the quantity and quality of recoverable water. Given this situation, it is necessary to recognize the appropriate qualitative and quantitative resources for a sustainable agriculture. In this study, we examine the quality of groundwater used for agriculture in Borazjan plains located in the north of Bushehr. We analyzed the 21 groundwater samples according to the concentration of HCO3- K+, Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Cl-, SO42-, NO3-. Sodium, chlorine, nitrate were compared to irrigation water standards. Some parameters such as total dissolved solids (TDS), sodium adsorption ratio (SAR), and permeability index (PI), residual carbonate (RC), electrical conductivity (EC) and ground water quality index (GWQI) were evaluated as well. The results showed that the quality of ground water and sodium chloride plain Borazjan based on the factor of EC, chlorine, sodium is greater than the standard. Analyzing the quality of groundwater spatially showed that the groundwater in this plain has a medium quality for agricultural purposes. The GQI map shows that says that the index is between 68 to 82 percent, and this means that the north and the center of this plain has an average quality; while the southern part of the plain has more suitable  water for irrigation.
