Abstract: Introduction: Egyptian service users are struggling with the notion of mental health stigma which is enhanced by focusing on their diagnostic labels and deficits. Aim: In this study we evaluated the effectiveness of the strengths-based service delivery model plus treatment as usual (TAU) versus TAU in improving levels of social and adaptive functioning and reducing levels of psychopathology in individuals diagnosed with a psychotic disorder in Egypt. Methods: this study used a quasi-experimental research design where sixty adult patients admitted to Abbasia hospital, Egypt were allocated to a strengths-based service delivery and TAU experimental group and a TAU control group. Results: Participants receiving strengths-based service delivery and TAU reported statistically significant improvements in social and adaptive functioning and reductions in psychopathology compared to the TAU control group. Conclusion: Working with people diagnosed with severe mental illness from a strengths perspective is likely to be associated with improvements in their levels of social and adaptive functioning and reduced levels of psychopathology. Accessible summary: (1) People living with severe mental illness need service delivery models which work on their abilities. (2) The strengths-based service delivery is associated with improvements in social and adaptive functioning and reduction in psychopathology level. (3) Robust randomized controlled trials are required to investigate the efficacy of this service delivery.

Abstract: Malaria has remained a major public health issue in Nigeria, and Africa as a whole. Despite policies and control efforts put in place by government targeted towards its control and eradication, it still remains at the front burner in most public health discourse in Nigeria. Many might think that not much is been done in the control/eradication of the disease in Nigeria, most especially as the morbidity and mortality associated with the disease cannot be quantified. This paper chronicles some of the policies and control measures put in place by the Nigerian government in collaboration with foreign technical partners in its control. It also highlights challenges and gives pragmatic recommendations on way forward. Policies put in place among others include Presidents Malaria initiative (PMI), Roll back Malaria (RBM). Control efforts among others includes provision of Long lasting Insecticide treated nets (LLIN), Indoor residual spraying(IRS) e.t.c. Amongst others the following recommendations were given, that government should expedite funding of control efforts most importantly in giving their counterpart funding to partnership control programmes, it should also provide and encourage the use of long lasting insecticide treated nets (LLIN), and most importantly and as the most cost effective option should support the development of malaria vaccine and researchers on malaria Collaborate with universities and research institutions so as to put in use their research outcomes.

Abstract: Good clinical practice (GCP) is an international ethical and scientific quality standard for designing, conducting, recording, and reporting trials that involve the participation of human subjects and was developed with consideration of the current good clinical standards of the European Union, Japan, and the United States, as well as those of Australia, Canada, the Nordic countries, and the World Health Organization (WHO). Compliance with this standard provides public assurance that the rights, safety, and well-being of trial subjects are protected, and that the clinical trial data are credible. This standard should be followed when generating clinical trial data that are intended to be submitted to regulatory body (US Food and Drug Administration [FDA]).

Abstract: Impacted third molar (M3) surgery result in periodontal complications on the distal surface of the adjacent second molar (M2). This study was conducted to review the effect of different techniques in terms of periodontal status of the preceding M2 after lower M3 surgery. The PubMed database was searched for the related studies with a minimum follow-up period of three months. In the studies obtained, Bone substitutes and guided tissue regeneration technique show conflicting results, however, they may be valuable in high-risk group of patients. The effect flap design used in M3 surgery on the periodontal status of the M2 is uncertain. Platelet-rich plasma gel along with the curettage of the distal radicular surface of the M2 improves periodontal healing. Anchor suture might be a better technique to use to maintain healthy periodontium after M3 surgery.

Abstract: Nursing is a professional work within the health care system on the care of individuals, families, and communities so that they may attain, maintain, or recover optimal health and quality of life. Nurses provide care within the ordering scope of physicians. In the postwar period, nurse education has undergone a process of diversification towards advanced and specialized credentials, and many of the traditional regulations and provider roles are changing. In the fifth century BC, for example, the Hippocratic Collection in places describes skilled care and observation of patients by male attendants, who may have been early nurses. This article introduces recent research reports on nursing and life researches as references in the related studies.
