Abstract: A screen house experiment was conducted to investigate the growth and nutrient uptake as influenced by organic manure and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) in Capsicum annum. The treatments were inoculated with arbuscular mycorrhizal (M+), without arbuscular mycorrhizal (M-) and with application of organic manure; with pig dung (PD+), without pig dung (PD-), with poultry manure (PM+), without poultry manure (PM-). The experiment was laid out in factorial combination using complete randomized design with three replicates. The result of this study showed that at 5 weeks after planting plant height increased with the application of pig dung and poultry manure. Stem diameter increased across the weeks but at 5 weeks after planting mycorrhizal inoculation, with pig dung and poultry manure increased. The application of Pig dung increased the root and shoot biomass of plant when compared with the inoculated plants. The combined application of pig dung and mycorrhizal inoculation significantly increase Mg uptake when compared with control. The concentration of nutrients especially phosphorus must be considered in the soil before inoculation with AMF and application of organic manure maintained the soil fertility.

Abstract: The global poultry industry has seen significant changes in the methods used to harvest and process fresh egg over the past century. Applications of animal genetics and breeding has significantly increased in line speed for poultry operation. For this purpose, two types of search criteria to find publications relevant to the scope of this review. The first type was an automatic search performed on the following publishers' databases: ScienceDirect, Google scholar, researcher gates, academia. The second type was a manual search on conferences, recent theses and dissertation that have not been published in journals from numerous Library in Nigeria. On the whole, 23 publications were reported for breed; 17 for housing, and 19 for age of the breed after excluding studies that do not focus explicitly on breed, housing and age of the bird as production factors that influenced egg quality traits out of 183 potential relevant articles identified from January 2001 to December 2016. Thus, this review would provide animal genetics and breeding researchers in terms of identifying the most potent breed, adequate housing system and precise age for optimum production of birds with high quality.

Abstract: A laboratory analysis was conducted to determine the effects of varying soaking period on the proximate composition, amino acid profile and levels of anti-nutritional factors of Senna obtusifolia seeds soaked in water. The seed were subjected to different soaking periods of 0, 6, 12 and 24 hours. Each representative sample was analysed in triplicates for the proximate composition, amino acid profile and levels of anti-nutritional factors using standard laboratory procedure. The results indicated a decreasing trend for some of the proximate composition, amino acid profile and level of anti-nutritional factors as the soaking period progresses. Crude protein for instance was observed to decrease from 25.33 to 20.08% and ash 4.11 to 3.01%. The amino acid contents and level of anti-nutritional factors indicated a similar reduction trend. Methionine and lysine decreased from 2.55 to 1.78 g/100g and 1.19 to 0.64g/100g, respectively. While tannins and oxalates decreased from 5.42 to 2.59g/100 g and 1.95 to 0.18g/100g/, respectively. It can be concluded that soaking treatments for up to 24 hours slightly reduced the proximate composition, amino acid profile and levels of the anti-nutritional factors of Senna obtusifolia seeds. However, soaking for up to 24 hours was more effective in reducing levels of the anti-nutritional factors with less depreciation in the nutritional properties of Senna obtusifolia seeds and is therefore recommended for processing of Senna obtusifolia seeds. Further studies should be conducted to investigate the chemical composition of Senna obtusifolia seeds soaked beyond 24 hours.

Abstract: Genetic engineering (GE) brings the revolution in crop improvement by developing the genetically modified (GM) crops having intentional and novel traits. GM crops hold the great potential to face current challenges, in term of satisficing the increasing demand of agricultural products and food security. Despite the promises they hold, safety assessment of the GM crops is inevitable for their adoption and public concerns. Intense safety research work has been done, which indicates no direct significant adverse effect either on environment or on human health. However, in spite of intense scientific research work and available information some stones still need to be unturned. A deliberate scientific effort is required to uncover many secrets such as, mutagenicity and long-term heath effect of GM crops, in order to build enough confidence for the acceptance of such type of biotechnological innovations.

Abstract: Electrical resistivity investigation was carried out around Gamo-Gofa area, Merab Abaya, Southern regional state, in order to study the subsurface geologic layer (groundwater potential Zones) with a view of determining the depth to the bedrock and thickness of the geologic layers. Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) using Schlumberger array was carried out at twelve (12) VES stations, 7 VES at Fetale, 3VES at Doshe and 2 VES at Yayke kebles. WDJ-terrameter was used for the data acquisition. The field data obtained have been analyzed using computer software (1DIX) which gives an automatic interpretation of the true resistivity. The VES results revealed heterogeneous nature of the subsurface geological sequence. The geologic sequence beneath the study area is composed of hard top soil (clayey and silt soil), weathered layer, partly weathered or fractured basement and fresh basement. The study mainly focuses on the evaluation of the groundwater potential of Merab Abaya and designed for the purpose of pressurized irrigation development.

Abstract: The use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in sciences for generating maps capable of reflecting variability trends is gaining fast global acceptance. Against this backdrop, GIS-based models were spatially used to characterize flora diversity and soil relations in a riverine wetland of Imo River Basin. Soil and vegetation were sampled systematically using a 10m × 10m quadrat. The vegetation assemblage comprised of 9 species from 5 families. High frequency of occurrence was recorded by Nypa fruticans (75%) and Acrostichum aureum (75%). Nypa fruticans dominated in density (541.78±155.90 st/ha), Rhizophora mangle was the tallest species (8.33±1.25m) while Avicennia africana (2.56±1.57 m2/ha) and Phoenix reclinata (0.836±0.10 m2/ha) dominated in crown coverage and basal area, respectively. GIS techniques showed variability in Shannon-Weinner, evenness and dominance diversity indices spatially by delineating five classes. Of these classes, station 4 dominated both in species richness (Class 5: 1.09 – 1.17) and evenness (Class 5: 0.76 – 0.8) while station 2 had highest dominance value (Class 5: 0.59 – 0.64). For the nutrient composition, GIS mapping also showed variations spatially outlining various classes. Station 2 being close to the sea recorded the highest phosphorus contents (Class 5: 2.07 – 2.17) while station 3 had the least range of values (Class 1: 1.66 – 1.76). Station 3 had the highest values for total nitrogen (Class 5: 0.35 – 0.37) and organic carbon (Class 5: 13.55 – 14.8). Conclusively, this study confirms that geo-statistical modelling are effective tools in site evaluation and environmental monitoring and can be applied in many areas of research particularly where spatial variability and distribution are weighty.

Abstract: This research aims to identify the effects of using rehabilitative exercises in old age non-active patient with herniated lumbar discs (group 1), the effects of using rehabilitative exercises and localized manipulation for vertebrae (manual treatment) in old age non-active patient with herniated lumbar discs (group 2) and the effects of using localized manipulation in treating herniated lumbar discs. The researchers used the experimental approach (two-group design) with two experimental groups and pre-/post-measurements. Participants (n=15) were purposefully chosen from patients of physiotherapy hospital -Kuwait. All patient had lumbar discs injuries (left lumbar discs herniation between 4th and 5th lumbar discs or between 5th lumbar disc and 1st sacral disc). Patients were divided into two equivalent groups (g 1 = g 2 = 5) as three patients were disqualified and two others were chosen for pilot study. Results indicated that: (1) Localized manipulation and rehabilitative exercises together have positive effects as exercises strengthen working muscles that stabilize lumbar and sacral vertebrae in addition to fixing the injured vertebrae to normal position. (2) Localized manipulation and rehabilitative exercises restored low back range of motion to near normal in addition to restoring muscular strength of working muscles. (3) The recommended rehabilitative exercises program with Localized manipulation improved functional efficiency of the spine to perform its tasks automatically. (4) The recommended rehabilitative exercises program with Localized manipulation encouraged patients to avoid surgeries and depend on such programs for treating herniated lumbar discs.

Abstract: This paper addresses the issue of classifying local gear faults that depends on vibration signal measurements. Most of early gears fault detection and diagnosis methods result in insufficient results when dealing either with time or frequency domain characteristic. In order to overcome these obstacles, a Time-Frequency based approach implemented on Field Programming Gate Array (FPGA) is proposed. The presented approach combines Bagged Trees Classifier (BTC) with Complex Analytic Wavelet Transform (CAWT) analysis. Moreover, the presented approach benefits from the superior realization nature of FPGA. Extensive simulations and experiments have been conducted in order to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed approach. Experiments are performed on bevel gearbox with both healthy and one missing tooth. The obtained results clarify that presented approach has a superior classification accuracy rate over the other comparative approaches.
